A Day Working at The Fairway

Recently, I sustained a mild paragliding injury after an ill-advised attempt to ride a seagull off Nauset Light. Don’t worry—I’m fine! My bank account, however, wasn’t quite as lucky. (Turns out, medical insurance doesn’t cover donut-related adventures. Rude.)

With my glaze a little cracked and my funds running low, I caught wind of a job opening at Hole In One’s sister restaurant,

            Fairway Restaurant

and thought—why not? I’m a donut that makes donuts. I can do anything… right?

           Spoiler: Wrong.

           Rolling Into the Shift

I rolled (literally) out of bed, into a cup of coffee (what a rush!), and caught the bus to Eastham (they still won’t let me drive). Fueled by confidence and caffeine, I arrived feeling ready to crush my shift.

But the moment I walked through the door, it hit me:

           nerves.

            And then reality.

The team at The Fairway? They move fast. I don’t even have legs.
The servers? Carry trays piled with food. I have no upper body strength.
The menu? Extensive and delicious. My brain? 90% sugar puns.

           Not ideal.

           Table 3 Trouble

Undeterred, I waddled over to the hostess stand, tied on my apron, whispered a few affirmations, and approached Table 3.

           They ordered water. Easy, right?

           Wrong.
Six waters.
That’s practically all of Cape Cod Bay.

As I tiptoed toward their table, balancing glasses like a caffeine-fueled acrobat, disaster struck: my shoelace came untied. And just like that, a mini tsunami washed over the table. I turned a peaceful dinner into a water park. Not my finest hour.

The Pizza That Nearly Broke Me

Next up? Pizza. Now we’re talking! Pizza is made from dough. I’m made from dough. A kindred spirit! I was this close to joining the pizza line in solidarity. But I stayed the course.

            Turns out, balancing a

is harder than it looks—especially when your arms are made of frosting. The pies may have arrived a little… abstract, but they smelled amazing. I count that as a win (even if it technically wasn’t mine).

           Then came the final straw.

I was sent to sing Happy Birthday. Great! I love attention. I warmed up my vocal cords and gave a full-on Broadway performance… at the wrong table. The birthday was actually

           behind

            me.

           Oops.

I’ve never felt so defeated—and I’ve been literally beaten to become dough. After just one table, The Fairway staff gently (but firmly) suggested I take my talents elsewhere.

To shake off the embarrassment, I met up with some lobster friends for a late-night card game. I lost all my pity tips. (Clyde’s definitely a cheater. He always draws aces.)

           Final Thoughts

           So, what did I learn?
This little donut belongs in the display case, twirling under warm lights and bringing joy to the early morning crowd.

? I can personally recommend the incredibly competent humans at The Fairway Restaurant. They’re fast, friendly, and—most importantly—not made of pastry.

And to those brave guests who endured my short-lived serving career:

I’m truly sorry. But at least your story’s sweeter now.

Hey, it’s Sprinkles! I’ve officially hijacked the blog this month. Someone handed me the baton (technically, it was a jelly stick donut), and I’m rolling with it! Spring is here, and I’ve got a lineup of adventures planned that’ll make even the most seasoned pastry jealous.

And here’s the deal: I don’t want to go solo. So, I’m here to sprinkle a little sugar on your calendar and see if you’ll join me for some sweet springtime fun.

Ever wonder what it feels like to be surrounded by thousands of flowers and vintage cars? SAME. This place is bursting with blooms and beauty—and I blend in surprisingly well with the hydrangeas. There’s also a carousel, art exhibits, and enough history to make even your smartest aunt go, “Oh wow!” Trust me—this isn’t your average garden stroll. It’s a full-blown Spring Awakening, donut style.

Whether it’s a sunset cruise, a lazy afternoon harbor ride, or anchoring near your favorite beach, Beth Ann Charters serves peak good times energy. I’m bringing SPF 50 (Sticky Pastry Frosting) and vibes. You bring the sunglasses and playlists. Bonus points if we spot dolphins—I owe one of them a rematch in Marco Polo.

Batter up, baby! Opening day of Cape League Baseball is June 14, and I am ready. I’ve got my cap on (with a sprinkle-stitched brim), a tiny foam finger, and dreams of catching a fly ball with my frosting. These future major-leaguers bring serious heat—and by heat, I mean talent and sun exposure. So bring a blanket, grab some snacks, and meet me at the diamond. I’ll be the one heckling the ump (politely).

I’m not threatened by Portuguese pastries (much). Maybe they can show me some moves at the samba drummers! This event is chock-full of culture, food, and community, and there’s really nothing I love more than people and treats! Do you think we get to go on the boats during the blessing of the fleet? I have a need for speed!

If big events aren’t your jam (get it?), we can always link up for a coffee, a donut, or some classic Cape Cod fun. I’m an excellent sandcastle topper.

So whaddya say? Let’s make this the sweetest spring ever. Tag me, DM me, or just show up. I’ll be the one with the frosted grin.

While the Hole In One’s mascot, Sprinkles, has been sprinkling some fun onto our social media platforms for a little while now, it’s time for a proper introduction. This quirky companion rolled right out of the fryer and into our hearts—and we’re pretty sure it’ll find its way into yours, too. After all, who wouldn’t love a delightfully unpredictable, frosting-covered, sprinkle-coated bundle of mischief?

The origin of Sprinkles remains a delicious mystery to us at Hole in One. We may never truly know what magic transformed one of our simple frosted donuts into a mischievous being. One stormy morning, as our fresh donuts lined the shelves, ready for eager customers, the lights flickered, the fryers rattled, and—BOOM!—there was Sprinkles, surfing a coffee lid in the kitchen sink!

We thought we might be imagining things, but no, Sprinkles was for real. And from that moment on, we knew it was our duty to care for it. One moment a pastry, the next a pal—now Sprinkles isn’t just part of the Hole in One family, it’s our official mascot.

           So, who is Sprinkles?

Sprinkles is a star employee when it comes to customer satisfaction —just do-nut get stuck in a conversation with it! It tends to leave its shift at the shop more covered in powdered sugar than when we found it, but we can’t complain. Its mission? Keeping our spirits high with a fresh batch of puns every morning.

After clocking out for the day, that’s when the true Sprinkles emerges. Kind of like that wild friend from high school. If you spot Sprinkles out in the wild, prepare yourself for some shenanigans…

In the summertime, you’ll most likely find Sprinkles seeking outdoor adventure around the Cape.

Diets—life’s too short to not enjoy sweets
